Alert! Changes in Work Incentives

The substantial gainful activity amount for 2004 is $810/month. For blind individuals, substantial gainful activity is $1370/month.

If your earnings are over $810/month and you are on SSI, you will qualify for 1619(a) Medicaid.
The trial work period monthly amount for 2004 is $580/month. For a self-employed individual, if the individualís earnings are not over $810/month, SSA will consider that the individual was performing substantial gainful activity if the individual worked more than 80 hours in a month.

The monthly earned income exclusion for students who receive SSI for 2004 is $1,350, and the annual exclusion is $5,520.

All of the above amounts will be adjusted each year in January.
