ILLINOIS CONNECTIONS: ASSISTING VETERAN & MILITARY FAMILIES

Health & Disability Advocates is now offering assistance to Illinois Veterans, Military Service-Members, National Guard and Reservists, survivors and their families.  HDA will offer individual assistance and training to service providers in the military and civilian system.

Fact Sheets:  Understanding how the various military or veteran programs interact with civilian benefits can be very complicated.  We want to make sure that families have the best package of services, that can mean combining federal and state resources.  We have provided a series  of fact sheets aimed at helping you sort out how these programs interact.

To suggest a topic for a future fact sheet please email Project Director Laura Gallagher Watkin.

Assistance to Provider Agencies:

Military or Veteran Agencies: HDA is able to provide technical assistance or training to assist any agency that may have questions about Illinois public benefits. For example if an agency finds that a family has a need not met by the  veteran or military system we can help them assess if there is a state program that could help. We are also available to train agency staff on state benefits  if needed.

Civilian Social Service Agencies:  We are available to  work with civilian  social service agencies about how they could be more military friendly.  We can also help them learn enough about the military and veteran system for them to feel comfortable conducting outreach to this population.

What Help Is Available for Individual Families?

HDA specializes in supplementing military benefits with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Insurance, other state benefits, and the interaction of those benefits with available military benefits.  We are able to serve people who do not qualify for services through the Veterans Administration.  Please feel free to contact us or refer families to us if they are experiencing problems.

The Illinois Families of Fallen Service Member Task Force has recently released its Community Connections resource guide, intended to assist families of fallen service members in locating military, veteran and civilian resources.  To download your copy of the guide, click here.

How Do I Contact HDA?

This home page for Illinois Connections contains all of the fact sheets that have been created since the project began. Some of the resources and fact sheets were created for a particular population and we have also listed those on separate pages to make it easier for you to search.  For general information about the project, read our Illinois Connections Flyer.
