HB 1288 Fact Sheet
File format: PDF File (Adobe Acrobat File)
Author: Amy Zimmerman
Date: 04/27/2013
Abstract: HB 1288 provides important protections to children and families who access special education services. HB 1288 allows families to exercise "stay-put" rights by requesting mediation. "Stay-put" rights allow children to remain in their current school placement while there is a dispute. Currently "stay put" can only be exercised by filing for a Due Process hearing which is costly for both families and school districts. HB 1288 also ensures that complainants, such as parents, receive a copy of the school district's response to the complaint.
